10/24/19 - Capt Ben Ricks
Hey guys, Capt. Ben Ricks of Ricks Brothers Outdoors here. The trout are biting from New Bern to Morehead City. All signs point to an great fall trout season. Lately popping corks with soft plastics have been very productive. Jigs and hard baits have also been productive.
Since the trout fishing report will be fairly consistent for the next few months I'll try to add a few tips here and there. The popping corks have been fruitful lately, this weeks tip is experiment with your leader namely longer and lighter. As the water cools and gets clearer sometimes the fish can get picky. A longer leader or a lighter leader or both can be all the change you need. I typically use 20 lb test and I'll back off to 12 pound test leaders for trout and sometimes as long as 3 ft. If I can help you please give me a call (252) 333-9332.
