As the weather continues into winter the trout bite continues to HEAT UP! Limits are being caught before 8 am and the trout this year are healthy and plentiful!

Popping Corks are the quickest way to load the live well. Bett’s and Four Horseman Corks are the preferred cigar clickers here at the shop. Oval and larger corks are working well also. Most are fishing 3’ leaders under the cork and 12-15 lb fluorocarbon line. Every stretch of water seems to have preferred colors, but 3” DOA Shrimp are the ticket this time of year under the corks.

Mirrolures and TWITCH BAITS by Yozuri, Bomber’s “Badonk-A-Donk”, Sebile, and Unfair Lures are working well. The suspending baits are the most popular, but many fish them to fast. Fish them slow and let them sink for quick results when fish are stacking up on ledges and shorelines. Sinking TWITCH BAITS like Mirrolures MR18 work well and get down quicker for the impatient fisherman.

Soft Plastics are continuing to catch fish. Gulp Alive Jerk Shad in Blue Fuze and Fire Tiger continue to catch both trout and reds. Salt Water Assassin makes some phenomenal colors for this time of year, including “Butt Naked” and “Crystal Ice”. Keep the jig weight light to produce a natural fall rate. As the water cools below 50 degree the jigs and the plastics need to get smaller. If you’ve never slung a “Li’l Fishie”, you really need to look into it!

Puppy and Slot drum are being caught as well. Push back even farther into the creeks. “RAT REDS” are plentiful and being caught on the same tackle. Z-Mans MinnowZ and Diezel Minnowz are outstanding paddle-tails for reds. You’re gonna have to wade through all the shorts to find a keeper right now. But once you catch a limit of trout, that slot red is worth the effort.

Tight Lines and stop by the shop so we can talk about some fish!!
