10/31/19 - Capt Ben Ricks

Hey guys, Capt. Ben Ricks of Ricks Brothers Outdoors here.  Trout, Trout, Trout, Trout, TROUT!  That's all everyone is talking about because that all everyone is catching.  Fall trout fishing is in full swing from New Bern to More Head City. Lately popping corks with soft plastics have been very productive. Jigs and hard baits have also been working well.

Last time we talked about popping cork leader choice. This time we will talk about your lure choice for the popping cork. Use anything you want. Soft plastic shrimps, paddle tails, grubs, and fluke style baits all work well.

The tip for today is go as light as possible on your jig heads.  If you are using a Halo Shrimp (these work well) or something like that you can't alter the weight that much, but if you are using soft plastics with a jig head try using 1/8th or even 1/16th ounce jigs instead of 1/4 ounce jigs. When I fish gulp which sinks naturally I use no weight. Lighter weight will give you are more natural presentation and the lure will drift instead of swing like a pendulum. Give it a try I hope it gets you more bites. If I can help you please give me a call (252) 333-9332.
